The paper presents a method to assess drilling performance in interstratified sections, aimed to ensure full utilization of mechanical energy applied to the bottomhole for rock destruction. A comprehensive interpretation of logging data was performed to assess the lithological section and hardness of rocks. The authors present an algorithm for logging data processing, which allows to obtain approximate values of bottomhole parameters while drilling with a standard positive displacement motor assembly. It was possible to calculate specific mechanical energy applied to the bottomhole; it was established that it exceeds rock hardness many-fold. The result is that drilling performance is contingent on rock interstratification index in the subject geological section, while using PDC and roller cutter bits.<\/p>\n
