The paper provides details of basic operating conditions of mud motors whilst drilling. Issues under study include micro-delays of motor shaft rotation which occur when axial load rapidly increases, resulting from incorrect handling of mud motors. The authors analyze the mechanism of generation of forces acting on the motor in different operating conditions and identify factors which contribute to forces which loosen threaded joints of a mud motor whilst drilling.
The presented information is of practical relevance because the recommended principles of mud motor operation will help prevent many drilling accidents.<\/p>\n
