Present day advanced technologies, vast drilling experience and the use of adequate and optimal well configurations have enabled record vertical deviations of boreholes \u2013 12,000 km \u2013 to be achieved. The article comments on the world\u2019s best practices of directional and horizontal drilling and technical solutions used in drilling programs. The author has proved that utilization of the extended reach drilling technology in some offshore fields allows to reduce drilling costs and increase service life of existing production wells.<\/p>\n
