Oil and gas field development through horizontal well and sidehole drilling is becoming increasingly widespread. Application of aluminum pipes makes horizontal wells drilling easier. The authors show estimations and actual data on horizontal wells drilling in West Siberia.
The paper proves that utilization of light alloy improved dependability drill pipes (LAIDP) even at the horizontal section of the wellbore reduces, to a certain extent, the weight on hook, rotation torque and considerably enhances the reliability margin. The most important advantage of LAIDP is that drag forces are full equilibrated with the longitudinal force, which is applied by heavy weight drill pipes, and come close to the critical buckling force, which limits future drilling opportunities in case the drill string is made of steel pipes.

Key words: light alloy drill pipes, resistance force, horizontal wells
