Key words: deviation factor, directional well, horizontal well, vertical deviation of borehole .
Present day advanced technologies, vast drilling experience and the use of adequate and optimal well configurations have enabled record vertical deviations of boreholes – 12,000 km – to be achieved. The article comments on the world’s best practices of directional and horizontal drilling and technical solutions used in drilling programs. The author has proved that utilization of the extended reach drilling technology in some offshore fields allows to reduce drilling costs and increase service life of existing production wells.
