ВToday, the Krasnodar branch of LLC Gazprom Burenie, the Krasnoyarsk Deep Drilling Expedition use Uramlash 3D-86 drilling rigs for exploration drilling. Top drives are required due to the increased scope of drilling in areas of complex geology, directional and horizontal drilling. Moreover, the Rules of Safety in Oil and Gas Industry state that it is obligatory to use top drive systems whilst drilling deep wells, more than 4,500 m in depth, or wells with a horizontal section of more than 300m. The paper provides rationale for the use of top drive systems on the Uralmash 3D-86 drilling rig.
