Sand production is one of the most serious problems which arise during the operation of underground gas storage facilities. The paper provides an analysis of deficiencies of sand screens which were used in the past. The author uses a new approach to detailed analysis and decision making for the step by step operation process (preparation of wells for workover, well killing, installation of sand screen equipment) including measures to ensure safe operation of wells. New sand screens of various design were developed and introduced to the production process.
