To assess thermal stress affecting walls of a well, a mathematical model has been developed. Given temperature changes in an extended reach well and surrounding rocks, this model describes changes in the hole geometry and fracturing of formations. This approach allows to increase the quality of engineering solutions for offshore well drilling in complex geological conditions.
