Key words: velocity logging; drilling control system; weight on bit; penetration; penetration rate; monitoring; automated process control system; drilling operations.
The paper concerns the use of data received form a drilling control system in order to perform detailed velocity logs and obtain reasonable recommendations for drilling process control within the framework of the automated process control system «Drilling Operations». Experiments confirmed that there is a possibility of developing a weight on bit — penetration rate model, which also takes account of other drilling parameters. Engineers came up with a simple and effective algorithm of statistical analysis of data provided by the drilling control system, which allowed to switch to prompt development of analytical models. Examples are provided of how the algorithm works in most common situations, based on real time data supplied by the drilling control system.
