The paper provides a review of results of drilling bit operation in interbedded formations of varying hardness in the Ural-Volga region. Following a regressive analysis, the author established a link between cutting structure wear and increase in net time on bottom. A criterion for selection of a drill bit with antivibration inserts has been proposed. Examples are provided of how average penetration rates result in bit wear. Also, there is an analysis of recorded PDC bit torque.
