The paper focuses on the importance of correct selection of drilling tools for complex geological conditions, including vertical drilling and horizontal directional drilling methods. Drilling tool performance parameters are considered in relation to safe operation and, therefore, drilling costs reduction. The combination of high performance of drilling tools and low cost are exemplified by tools provided by one of the world’s leading manufacturers and used for drilling two wells in formations with hardness of 84 MPa to 174 MPa. Special attention is paid to drilling tools’ design and advanced manufacturing technologies, which ensure high strength of the tools.
