The paper provides an analysis of fundamentally new mathematical approaches and modes for well design and drilling management. The analysis allows to determine the main properties of the Euler spiral, profile combinations based on the Euler spiral as a transition curve for curved sections of a proposed extended reach hole and shallow pay zone.
The authors have completed the initial phase of work including the comparison between a conven tional profile and a profile calculated on the basis of the Euler spiral. The proposed model includes the use of a profile with bi-clothoid as an effective solution for wells with high
dog-leg severity and zenith angles.
