Key words: extended reach well, energy efficient profile, clothoid, biclothoid, shallow producing reservoirs, maximum axial weight on bit.
The paper provides an analysis of fundamentally new solutions for designing. It was established following the analysis that gradual change in the profile curvature allows to increase maximum axial weight on bit in a proposed extended reach hole and shallow pay zone profile, using clothoid. The authors have drawn a comparison between a tangential pro-
file and a clothoid-based profile. The proposed model includes the use of a profile with biclothoid as an effective solution for wells with high dogleg severity and zenith angles.
