SCHEDULING OF UNDERBALANCED DRILLING OPERATIONS

The paper focuses on the issue of scheduling underbalanced drilling operations. The authors represent the problem of optimal scheduling in mathematical terms and identify difficulties of solving problems of this kind. In case of two crews (conventional drilling and underbalanced drilling) an optimal procedure for scheduling drilling operations is based on Johnson’s classical algorithm. The authors suggest a method to reduce total rig downtime and the number of rigs for underbalanced drilling. Examples are provided which show the capabilities of scheduling optimization as compared to «manual» scheduling procedures.
