CALCULATION OF THE OPENING OF A RECTANGULAR SHALLOW CRACK AND PRESSURE DROP IN LAMINAR FLOW OF VISCOUS-PLASTIC FLUID

The paper analyzes stationary laminar flow of viscous-plastic fluid in a rectangular shallow slot (crack), which is described by the Volarovich-Gutkin cubic equation. Conversion of the equation to a non-dimensional form has allowed to develop a simple semigraphical method for the calculation of pressure drops. New approximate formulas are presented for explicit calculation of pressure drop and crack opening in the range of Sent Venant numbers from 10-2 to 103. Numerical illustrations were used to compare results of calculations based on the proposed formulas and the generally accepted Volarovich-Gutkin equation.
