Key words: Western Siberia, side track (ST), sidetracking, well profile, whipstock, milling bit, reduction in drilling costs.
Maintaining the productivity of marginal wells and recovery of inactive wells is one of the priority tasks for effective development of hydrocarbon fields. Presently, for these purposes, the technology of sidetracking from casing strings is widely used. The largest number of sidetracking operations in the Russian Federation, especially in the gas fields are conducted in Western Siberia. The article presents a brief history of the development of sidetracking technology, analyzes the results of the work, details the main aspects related to the application of the technology, and provides recommendations for the design of sidetracking using the example of a typical gas well on Cenomanian stratum in the Western Siberia fields.
