Key words: drilling parameters; transport of cuttings; loss of stability; buckling; directional well; well cleaning.
The paper argues in favor of studying controlling influence of sinusoidal buckling in a drill string on cuttings and sludge removal from a directional well. It introduces an experimental test facility developed in the laboratory of Well Drilling Department, St. Petersburg Mining University, and presents a detailed procedure of the experimental study. The paper also gives results of a full-scale multi-factorial experiment that showed how intensity and quality of cleaning a well from cuttings and sludge depends on the value of several parameters, such as: flow rate and rheological properties of a cleaning agent, rotation rate and number of half waves occurring due to longitudinal bending of the drill string.
