Key words: drilling fluid, cationic polymers, cementing quality, pretreatment the well bore for cementing, buffer compositions.
The article considers the applicability of traditional buffer compositions for cementing to wells drilled using cationic polymers. Key features of cationic polymers are described in detail, as well as problematic aspects in effecting the quality of cementing due to these features. It is convincingly shown that the traditional approach, which does not take into account the specifics of cationic polymers, is not able to guarantee the required quality of wellbore pretreatment. A reasonable set of measures is proposed to ensure the necessary performance of each buffer fluid pumped in the framework of the most frequently implemented circulating scheme. Taking into account these simple recommendations will improve the quality of cementing wells drilled using cationic polymers, without fundamentally changing the current scheme of using buffer compositions.
