Key words: casing string, abnormal formation pressure, well design, complicated geological conditions.
The paper’s focus is well design problems relating to the existing geological environment and technical limitations with regard to the number of casing strings required to isolate anomalous zones. There are examples of well designs which make allowance for the complex geological conditions including anomalous pressures and temperatures increasing with depth. The paper offers a progressive approach to offshore well designing, including a method of setting a casing string on a previous string, which allows to reduce specific amount of steel and the cost of safe well drilling.
