Key words
: mud motor, rotor and stator, wear, hydraulic power, operating mode.

The paper provides details of a method to calculate the rate of wear of a positive displacement motor in different operating modes. The described method to determine the rate of wear of rotors and stators while drilling can also be used for design purposes. Based on drilling mode parameters, this method allows to predict with much certainty the remaining life of rotors and stators, however it is only possible if a certain degree of wear of a mud motor has been achieved.
