The article discusses the main applicability of the high-performance computing (supercomputing) technologies for offshore oil and gas field development. The article touches upon the issue of different operating principles for supercomputing and grid networking. Much attention is given to the ongoing international research and development projects on reservoir management with the use of the high-performance computing (HPC) technologies and some case studies in the Caspian offshore areas are described.
