Key words: Arctic shelf, prospecting phase of geological exploration, the Kara and Barents seas, prospect drilling, greenfields and discovered fields, super giant fields, dynamic system for drilling of exploration and appraisal wells in various geological environments.
The paper concerns exploration operations performed during the prospecting and evaluation phase in the Arctic shelf of the Kara and Barents seas. It is shown that efficient exploration drilling can provide increment of commercial hydrocarbon reserves within a short time for the preparation of major gas field development projects in the Kara sea with the use of dynamic drilling system, taking into consideration geological and geophysical factors affecting geological tasks.
