The paper is focused on the issues of design and application of clay free mud systems including a condensed phase. It analyses the potential of high performance pseudoplastic mineral hydrogels which can withstand high pressures and temperatures downhole. The authors propose a method to stabilize hydrogel systems with multi-ion complexes.
