Key words
: semi-submersible drilling rig, “hybrid” power supply scheme, horizontal-axial hydrodynamic generators, diesel generator sets, sea current, energy efficiency.

The article presents the results of a study to improve the efficiency and reliability of energy supply of the semi-submersible drilling rig «Polar Star» using hybrid technologies for the joint use of diesel and horizontal-axial hydrodynamic generators.
A mathematical model of the power supply system of the semi-submersible drilling rig using hydro and diesel generators has been created. The computational experiment was carried out taking into account the changing parameters of the load factor of the hydrodynamic generators, the speeds of underwater currents and the operating conditions of the drilling rig. As a result, the number of hydrogenerators required for the guaranteed energy supply under various modes of rig work was determined: drilling, fastening, preparatory and final works. The optimal parameters of hydrogenerators has been also determined.
The economic and mathematical modeling of the investment attractiveness of the project for the hybrid energy supply of semi-submersible drilling rig allowed us to determine acceptable values of the simulated values. The optimal parameters of hydrogenerators were also determined.
