Key words: drill bit, PDC bit, bit wear, wear assessment, bit serviceability.
The paper focuses on PDC bit wear and serviceability assessment. Based on the information obtained by LLC ISK PetroEngineering while providing oilfield services in West Siberia and as a result of desktop investigations, the authors have written a new PDC bit wear assessment guide. The recommended approach allows to assess the degree of wear of each element of a PDC bit and the entire bit and make a clear-cut decision concerning further operation, serviceability or subsequent disposal of a bit. The recommendations include a sequence of operations for the assessment of PDC drill bit wear to make a decision on further action.
