Key words: softening of clay rocks, clayfree polymer and biopolymer drilling muds, inhibiting micro-polymeragents
The paper is focused on the mechanism of inhibition of clay rock softening. It is shown that the optimum conditions for the inhibition of rock softening are provided by the use of clay-free polymer and biopolymer drilling muds based, in particular, on natural polysaccharide biopolymer – xanthan gum. The paper provides the information on the composition and properties of biopolymer non-dispersing drilling muds. The authors arrive at a conclusion that deformation of wellbore walls in unstable clay rock intervals can be successfully prevented by the use of composite materials (micro-polymer agents) consisting of inhibitors of rock softening and polymers.
