With the increased number of oil and gas wells drilled using screw downhole motors of different purpose, special importance is attached to development of new screw downhole motors and improvement of existing models. The current approach to improvement of screw downhole motors involves such tasks as increasing of motor service life, increasing of performance of screw downhole motors to be used with PDC bits, creation of special motor types for special drilling conditions; directional and horizontal well path control tasks. The article analyzes the existing designs of screw downhole motors, their advantages and shortcomings, as well as the problem of selection of the rotor and stator geometry parameters for specific drilling conditions.
